Drury Construction Co., Inc. of Bainbridge Island was recently honored for construction excellence by the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Washington.
The award was for construction of a new two-story Sanctuary/Classroom wing and remodeling existing space within the First Lutheran Church of Port Orchard, located on Mitchell Avenue.
The contractor received the AGC Excellence in Construction Award during the commercial construction trade association’s ninth annual banquet May 9 at Sheraton Seattle Hotel & Towers.
Drury introduced an innovative “Poly-Steel” concrete forming system for new exterior walls for the Church.
This product provided several advantages over conventional wood framing.
The Poly-Steel system uses polystyrene stay-in-place concrete forms in exterior walls.
This insulated system provided the church a reduction in noise from traffic and a reduced monthly utility bill.
This project was the first in Western Washington to use this concrete wall forming system.
The AGC Excellence in Construction Awards recognizes skill in the construction process for projects completed in the previous calendar year.
Judging criteria includes innovation in construction techniques or material, sensitivity to environmental surroundings, safety and loss control, and state-of-the art advancement.
This year’s competition drew 55 entries.
