Kitsap Hospice Care to Open
BREMERTON - Hospice of Kitsap County will open the county's first in-patient, residential Hospice Care Center by the end of 2007, fulfilling a long-standing need.
With the demand for hospice services expected to continue growing, the center will provide Kitsap County with a place that
extends dignity and caring at the end of life. Planners say the center will allow hospice to care for more than double the patients now served.
Plans are for 15 private patient studios with individual bathrooms, kitchenettes and accommodations for overnight guests. It will provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families and loved ones also will be able to use the center's kitchen, dining room, chapel/meditation room and sitting rooms with areas for visiting children to play.
The center will be at 570 Lebo Boulevard in East Bremerton with convenient access to Harrison Medical Center. Architectural services for renovation of the 10,000 square-foot facility are being provided by Art Anderson Associates of Bremerton, and Drury Construction of Poulsbo is the general contractor for the project.
It is being funded through a capital campaign with a goal of raising $1 million. It already has donations and pledges of more than $500,000, including a generous lead gift of $100,000 from the Rotary Club of Silverdale, a $75,000 grant from the Ben B. Cheney Foundation and nearly $70,000 from the Hospice of Kitsap County board of trustees and staff members.
