SUQUAMISH -
Drury Construction workers are installing cedar siding for the Suquamish Tribe's 12,000-square-foot longhouse at18294 Hyak Lane N.E. on the Suquamish waterfront. Construction costs are estimated at $4.6 million.
When finished in early 2009, the Suquamish Community House will have a 6,500-square-foot gathering hall with perimeter bench seating for 600 guests, a commercial kitchen and an outdoor dancing terrace. The tribe will use the longhouse for ceremonies and celebrations.
The LEED-designed building is being built with regional materials that have been harvested and manufactured within 500 miles of the project site. An indoor air quality management plan includes low-VOC paints and finishes. More than 90 percent of construction waste is being recycled.
Seattle's Mithun is the architect. Major subcontractors include Northwest Gas Supply & Plumbing, Sound Excavation, McClain Landscape Services, and Sabelhaus West (paint and exterior finishes). Poulsbo-based Drury's team includes project manager Roger Wagner, superintendent Alex Olson and project engineer Jake Hanes.
